FAQs

What is RugPool?

RugPool is a crypto-based online game where players can simulate "rug pulls" - a scam in crypto where developers abandon a project and make off with investors' funds.

In RugPool, rug pulls are consensual and part of the gameplay. Players compete to "rug" a communal pool first and claim the current "claimable amount" jackpot.

How do I play RugPool?

  • Sign up on the RugPool website with your crypto wallet.
  • Mint RUGPOOL tokens.
  • Tokens get more expensive as more sell, so buy early!
  • Watch the "Ruggable Pot" on the dashboard - this shows the total jackpot and current claimable amount.
  • When ready, click "Rug!" first before anyone else to drain the current claimable amount into your wallet.

What are RUGPOOL tokens?

RUGPOOL tokens are ERC20 tokens that are required to play RugPool. You need tokens to participate in rugging the pot.

How much do RUGPOOL tokens cost?

  • RUGPOOL tokens start at a fixed price of 0.1 ETH at launch.
  • After launch, the price increases by 1% for every 100 tokens sold.
  • You can mint as many tokens as you want in one transaction.
  • Tokens don't reset in price after rug pulls - only the claimable pot amount resets.

Can I trade RUGPOOL tokens?

Yes, RUGPOOL is an ERC20 token and can be freely moved or traded after minting.

Liquidity pools in the secondary market are not maintained by the team. Don't get rugged.

Is there a cooldown period after rug pulls?

Yes, after each rug pull the claimable amount resets to 0.

This kicks off a cooldown period where the claimable amount gradually refills to 0.1 ETH:

  • The cooldown lasts between 1-30 hours depending on the current total pot size.
  • Larger pots have shorter cooldown periods, smaller pots have longer cooldowns.
  • This prevents the pot from being drained too quickly.

See Cooldown Periods for more.

How do I win at RugPool?

  • Mint RUGPOOL tokens when the price is low, then rug the pool when the claimable pot is higher than the ETH you used to mint.
  • Monitor the dashboard often and act fast and click "Rug" first when the pot is ripe for taking.

What happens if I am too slow to rug?

If another player rugs the pot first it doesn’t matter. There’s nothing stopping you from rugging again after the cooldown period finishes.

Is RugPool a scam?

No, RugPool is a legitimate crypto game built on smart contracts. All game rules and tokenomics are transparent. The concept of consensual "rug pulls" adds an element of fun and risk while preventing actual scam behavior.

How is RugPool sustainable long term?

RugPool relies on an active community of engaged players. The game can last indefinitely. New players join to replenish the pot. On top of this, through the usage of the Cat-in-a-Box CDP system in the backend, stETH yield adds new ETH to the total ruggable pot daily.
